As part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at Hilla University, the College of Pharmacy held a scientific symposium entitled “Diabetes,” delivered by Dr. Rizk Rizk Ayyad, a lecturer at the College of Pharmacy. The symposium was attended by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and a number of faculty members. The symposium defined diabetes as: It occurs due to a decrease in the secretion of the hormone insulin, or a decline in the body’s ability to use it effectively, leading to the accumulation of glucose, or sugar, in the blood. Dr. Rizk explained that insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. It helps introduce glucose molecules into cells to be stored or used for energy production.
